100% with Self

Freedom comes when you are free to be you.

Maybe it’s from a job, family, schooling, friendships, romantic relationships, the television. We all have something that makes us feel pressure to be something or do something. There is an image of perfection and goodness that everyone has for us. Yet, people forget the beauty in brokenness, ugliness, and uniqueness. If you have conformed already or you find yourself conforming to this standard. . . It’s okay, this is a day where you can start again.

As your sister I want to call you higher. It’s time to step out of the box of conformity, and to be the woman with a wild faith. One that is counter-cultural, one that is honest, and one that believes in the future that is to come.

You may be building your life on foundations that are not firm. Just like the man who built his house on sand only to be washed away in the rain. Build your house on the most firm foundation that will never let you down, Jesus Christ. There is no need to lie, there is no one in this world that has an exact experience like you do. God already knows your ins and outs and He loves you dearly, you do not need to hide from the world. You were created uniquely in God’s image and your story, although it may be different, matters. You do not have to be like everyone else. God loves you in all of your uniqueness and if he wanted to create a million of the same person he would have, but he didn't. He created you, because you have something valuable and unique that reminds others of Him.

Reflect on these texts:

Lord, You have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I stand up;
You understand my thoughts from far away.
You observe my travels and my rest;
You are aware of all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue,
You know all about it, Lord.
You have encircled me;
You have placed Your hand on me.
This extraordinary knowledge is beyond me.
Psalm 139:1-5

You made me; you created me. Now give me the sense to follow your commands. May all who fear you find in me a cause for joy, for I have put my hope in your word.
Psalm 119:73-74

God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another. Do you have the gift of speaking? Then speak as though God himself were speaking through you. Do you have the gift of helping others? Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies. Then everything you do will bring glory to God through Jesus Christ. All glory and power to him forever and ever! Amen.
1 Peter 4:10-11

Challenge:

  • Write down one dream that has been stopped because of other's opinions. (i.e. becoming a professional pianist)
  • Write out 1 reason why you wanted to do it
  • Ask yourself if there is anything now that you want to do that you might be ignoring because of the fear of what others might think?
  • Next time that you encounter a situation where you would like to pretend to be like others, or to just go with the flow, but you actually feel differently ask God to give you the strength to stand up for your convictions.
