Resting in God's peace

Rest in His Peace

I had my whole life figured out. I was going to marry the guy I was dating after graduating from college and go to graduate school to get my masters in counseling. I planned everything around those two things. I made my plans and no one was going to change them. However, neither of those two things happened. I went through a period of brokenness and disappointment. I was nowhere close to accepting what didn’t happen and I was not at peace. After much stretching that God did in my life. I finally came to terms on what happened. I realized then that I could never let myself make plans without talking to God about them. I could never really even make plans, because God’s plans are much better. You see, you can only see a tiny piece of the whole picture. So when things don’t go right, you start to get angry with God blaming him for this pain he has supposedly caused. But God can see the whole picture. He sees the beginning from the end. He knows what is best! Trust Him!

Reflect on these texts:

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7

Write out how God spoke to you through these passages in your journal.

Challenge:

  • I challenge you today to reevaluate your plans and see what God has to say about them. Surrender your future, your career, your relationships, your money, your everything to Him! Stop worrying about tomorrow, focus on today. Pray about your plans, pray about your worries, and pray about fear of the unknown. It is then that you will experience his peace. Rest in His peace.
